Yes, he shut his finger in the drawer. Im hoping he will eventually figure out that its not a good idea to put your hand in and shut it.

Laundry Detergent Day

This year Im trying to save money by making things instead of buying them. I found a receipe online on making Laundry Detergent so I decided to give it a try.

Its easy:

1/2 Cup Borax

1/2 Cup Washing Soda

1 Bar of Soap

*Optional- Essential Oils

It makes about 16 ounces but I do a lot of laundry so i doubled it.

1. Grate the bars of soap. This was the hardest part and I almost bled my own blood 3 times--be careful!

I made a mess and realized I needed a way bigger bowl!!!2. Add the washing soda

3. Add the Borax 4. Stir, stir, stir!
5. I read somewhere not to add essential oils to your laundry detergent but I never ready why. I like things to smell good, so I figured "Meh, what harm will it do?" and did it anyway.
6. I stirred more and put it into an empty coffee can.
I guess he thought "Hey, mom's busy. She won't notice if I take out every single water bottle"

It's that simple. Took maybe 10 minutes to do and 9.5 of that was grating the soap. It smells really good like Dove and Lavender. I used Dove because I like the smell but you can use Zote, Fels-Naptha, etc.

Also, use white vinegar in your Downy Ball as a fabric softener. I havent tried this yet because I still have a huge-ass jug of softener from Costco but I read it works really well!!!

If you want more smell, put a few drops of essential oil on a clean wash cloth and throw it in the dryer with your clothes.

Busy day today!! My brother-in-law came over and jazzed up my iPhone for me. I went on an elaborate mission to find the ingredients to make laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be making the goods. Ill post the receipe and pictures!!

Wool Experiment

Today was a good day. Met up with Matt and bought his iphone (although I still havent really figured out how to use it), scored some great wool sweaters at Goodwill, and busted out my new sewing machine!!! My first project was turning a wool sweater into baby pants (or longies as we call them in the cloth diaper world). I felt handicapped and may or may not have sewn one of the legs on totally backwards and funky, but in the end after several f-bombs i finished em.

I think they turned out pretty cute!!!

First official day of my 365 Project!! Here is my Boo watching Mickey Mouse and having some "Cackers and Mole" (crackers and milk) before bed.

So I started off the year and the beginning of my project by slacking and forgetting to take my pictures!! I blame it on work and waking up at 4am. Ill put 2 pictures for those days anyway!!! These are from our awesome trip up north for The Polar Express.

Project 365

I heard about something on Babycenter.com called Project 365. Basically you take a picture everyday for one year. Im going to try my hardest to do it everyday!!!! My subject will be Rocket and Rocket-ish things.

There will be other random posts as well. Receipes. Things I make. Times that I feel like bitching and complaining. The usual.
